Community Care provide transport to doctors & hospitals for those who can't find other methods of transport. Run entirely by volunteers in the office (which is above The Map Shop) and drivers, they are a vital resource to the people of Upton and the surrounding area.
Upton Community Care
As you probably know, Upton Community Care is a volunteer group that organises transport for elderly and infirm clients, who have no other means of transport, to the surgery, dentists, hospitals and day care centres.
Our dedicated office volunteers take telephone bookings from our clients, then contact drivers to ask their availability for the drive. As our regular clients will know, we try to arrange drivers who live close to a client to keep the fares down.
Until now we have relied on our trusty diary to enter the details of the drive: location, date, time, allocated driver and pick up time, but now our genius IT Manager, Trevor, has, after many months of hard work, produced an amazing foolproof (?) computer system for the office team. At the moment we are running both systems, the diary and the computer, together but our office volunteers have now all been trained on the computer system and we are very close to being able to 'retire' our trustworthy diary. I know that some of us will suffer a twinge of regret as we close the diary for the last time!
Finally, we would be pleased to hear from anyone who would like to join our team of office volunteers. We man the office (above The Map Shop) each weekday morning from 9.30 – 11.30. All you need are basic computer skills and a friendly and kind telephone manner; you will be given plenty of support. It would be helpful if you could volunteer to cover the office once every fortnight, on a flexible basis.
We are also always grateful for enquiries from prospective drivers. Please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org or telephone 01684 593633. Thank you.
